Kristine

People

Kristine Xie is Amy's most stable friendship. Full name confirmed: Kristine Xie. Email: kxie2001@gmail.com. Phone: +1 (309) 510-3118. They've been friends since Dunlap High School in Peoria, class of 2019, and have never stopped talking.

Meowww

Kristine is the most active member of the "Meowww" group chat, the Peoria friend group that includes Taylor Wen, Jessie Li, and Elena (a Dunlap HS friend who works in defense, NOT Elena Wagenmans). All 309 area codes. They use cat-themed subgroup names: ":3", ">_<", "yisaw."

This group is Amy's emotional anchor. They predate Stanford, Apple, startups, everything. When the tech world gets complicated, the Meowww group is still there talking about pottery, weddings, and Kane's sauce composition. (Kristine's analysis: "I feel like its just thousand island, ranch, and pickle juice.")

Who She Is

Kristine went to UIUC (addresses: 1106 S Euclid St Apt 204, Champaign → later 202 E Gregory Dr Apt 301) for college, then got a UIUX job at Country Financial in the Chicago area, before eventually relocating toward California.

She has one of the most distinctive texting voices in Amy's entire contact list: "Omg", "omfg", "LMAO", "uwu", "hehehe", "kween", "yayay", "I—" (for shock), "swag", "ajdfa;lsdk" (keyboard smash), "SO FUN", "AHHHHH", "<//3", ":3", "~~" for soft energy, ";-;" for sad. Lower case default with ALL CAPS eruptions for excitement. Never preachy — always "that makes sense" and "u got it girl" and "no pain no growth!!! so cheesy ahaha but it's fr."

She has strong interests in thrifting (found men's Adidas Sambas at Goodwill, considered reselling on eBay), 3D printing and laser cutting (wanted to print "a cat with his arms up so I can place stuff on his hands"), ceramics and art, sustainability, and K-fashion / Korean aesthetics. Blunt fashion opinions: "Girl that'll look like an off brand kardashian" about a Ross jumpsuit; "Not it being from Ross."

The Friendship Across Years

2021 — Apple Era / UIUC Freshman: Amy was in SF on the Apple internship; Kristine was at UIUC. Amy sent Kristine a handmade crocheted scarf and crop top in the mail (March 2021). Kristine received it: "Girl I love u too😭😭💖💖 I really miss u a lot even though I don't show it all the time." And when the package arrived: "Thank u amy so much for everything, I'm literally so touched. Your crocheting is so BEAUTIFUL!!! It's still cold in IL so imma bust out that scarf wherever I go, and once it gets warm I'm wearing that BEAUTIFUL TOP 😍😍😍."

Kristine visited Amy in San Francisco in May 2021 with her family — Japan Tea Garden, Daeho (the famous Korean cheese meat restaurant), thrifting.

2023 — Peak Creative Exchange (2,090 messages): By this year Kristine had access to 3D printing labs and laser cutters at UIUC. The friendship became a running craft consultation — Kristine sharing what she's making, Amy sharing feedback. Kristine reviewed Amy's design portfolio presentation at 5am during a boring class ("im bored in class so I did this lol"), adding layout suggestions and noting the autobiography slide was too long: "amy ur designs r amazing / I love the dough roller / UR SO TALENTED IM AMAZED."

In March 2023, Kristine disclosed her first sexual experience to Amy — with a UIUC sophomore named Carlos she'd met at Costco and matched with on Hinge, not realizing his age until too late ("I feel like a predator and I get shivers"). She went on the date, they slept together, he didn't use a condom, she took Plan B. She confided everything: "I need to call u sometimes / too much to say over text." Amy's response was grounding and practical without judgment. Kristine: "Thank u Amy😭😭😭 / Grounding me rn / Feel so inexperienced." The "cougar" joke about dating a sophomore persisted for months.

January 2025 — Teddy: When Teddy (Amy's family dog) fell ill, the Meowww group mobilized immediately. Kristine on January 4th: "NOOOOOO / WHY / MY BABY 😭😭😭😭" — then sustained daily check-ins throughout the week. "What a precious baby." "He looks so cutie." When Teddy passed on January 20th: "I'm so sorry amy / 🫂 sending you a big big hug." She made a shared Spotify playlist that day: "Add ur guys fav songs right now / I wanna know what you've been bopping to."

January 2025 — Kristine's LASIK: Right around Teddy's death, Kristine also got LASIK surgery: "I just got lasik / I slept/cried for 7 hours / It's so weird / So I keep crying." The timing was brutal — one grieving, one in medical recovery. These parallel moments of vulnerability are very characteristic of how this friendship handles real life.

2025–2026 — Deepening: 1,995 messages in 2025, 922 in the first quarter of 2026 alone. They went to China together in December 2025 with the Meowww group. The friendship shows no signs of drift.

The Au Pair

In early 2026, Kristine went to Sevilla, Spain as an au pair. It went badly. The host family treats her as a servant: washing the dad's dishes while he watches TV, cooking Spanish food she doesn't know how to make, walking 40 minutes because the buses are terrible, losing sleep to noise. They forgot her birthday (March 24). She picks up the kids from school, which cuts her language classes short.

The whole Meowww group rallied: "U got this kristine, our bravest friend fr!!" and "Love you very much kristine."

Peoria Leaving

Simultaneously, Kristine's family is selling the house in Peoria and moving to Eastvale, California (east of LA). Her aunt lives in Diamond Bar, CA when she's not in China. Kristine's response to the move: "Peoria </3 🥲😭😭😭😭😭"

This is the end of an era for the whole Meowww group. Peoria was the place that held them together through high school, and now the families are scattering.

Inside Jokes

  • "Meowww" — the group itself is the bit. The whole Peoria girl squad.
  • Daeho — the Korean cheese meat restaurant they have dreamed of, gone to, and referenced for years
  • Thrift hauls — Kristine does elaborate photo sequences of thrift finds; Amy rates them honestly
  • The "cougar" situation — Kristine calling herself a cougar/pedo for dating a 20-year-old sophomore, repeated for months
  • "We're on dat same wavelength 🧠~~🧠" — Kristine's phrase for perfect sync with Amy
  • "Girl I love u too😭😭💖💖" — the emotional register they return to when things get real
  • China trip Dec 2025 — their first big adult friend trip together

Significance

9,610 messages. 2021 to April 2026. The numbers never spike dramatically or crash. No peak year dominates. This is the most consistent friendship in Amy's documented life — the one that doesn't depend on being in the same school, same company, or same city. Kristine just keeps showing up. She likes Amy the way old friends do — because she knew her when she was 17 in a Peoria winter wanting to leave. This is the friendship Amy doesn't have to perform for.

Birthday: March 24.
