The Hole That Nothing Fills

Philosophies

Amy's most honest self-assessment, articulated on March 8, 2026: "Taya only made me feel 'a little' cool. I had everything. CTO title, building the whole product, the a16z stamp. And it wasn't enough. So why would the next startup be different?"

The Logic

If having everything at a VC-backed startup did not make Amy feel worthy, then the problem is not the absence of a startup. The problem is the mechanism by which Amy seeks worthiness. No external achievement can fill an internal deficit.

Amy recognizes this. She has stated it clearly. She continues to want a startup anyway.

The Recurring Question

This philosophy surfaces whenever Amy feels the pull to start something:

March 10: "I want what Elena has, except earned. Except I already know, I had everything at Taya and it only made me feel 'a little' cool."

March 17: "I feel shame about it. Like I left Taya, got paid, got a good job, and somehow I still feel like I'm falling behind."

March 8: "If Taya didn't fill that hole, nothing will."

The Exception

Cute Ghostty and Hardware Craft Night suggest that the hole is specific to validation-seeking projects. When Amy builds for intrinsic reasons, the feeling is different. The question is whether she can start a company from that place rather than from the comparison spiral.

Unresolved

As of April 2026, this remains Amy's central unresolved question. She knows the answer intellectually ("nothing will fill it") and does not yet know how to act on that knowledge without giving up the ambition entirely.
